An estimated 20,000 tonnes of old household batteries end up in landfill every year.
Batteries contain toxic chemicals and metals, including lead, mercury, zinc and lithium, that can pollute the environment. Many of these elements can be safely extracted and reused in new batteries, lighting, and more.
Don't bin your used batteries - drop them off at your local Cancer Research UK shop next time you visit us.
We’ve partnered with Ecosurety to safely recycle batteries. Ecosurety will donate £100 for every tonne of batteries donated to support our life-saving work.
We can accept most used household batteries, from coin batteries found in watches and hearing aids, to larger 6V 'Lantern' batteries. Please wrap a piece of sticky tape around coin batteries before recycling them.
The different types of batteries that we accept are:
6V
D
9V

We're sorry, but we are unable to accept other types of battery. Please recycle these.
